At first, Irving restrained them, but the illogical position of admitting that they were utterances inspired by the Holy Spirit and yet trying to restrain them became increasingly untenable. Paul learned this truth when God explained why his thrice repeated prayer for personal healing was not granted (II Cor.12:1-10); and, also, when one of Paul's faithful helpers, Trophimus was unable to accompany him because of sickness (II Tim. 4:20).

MR: You've made a very interesting point that-given evangelicals' view of the church, sacraments, worship, and theological distinctives-"conservative" is hardly the appropriate term for them. It does not recognize the ecclesiastical authority of the Monarch of England or the Bishop of Canterbury. This evangelical movement originated as a revival within the 18th-century Church of England and became a separate Church following Wesley's death. We must ask if the Roman Catholic Church is truly a Christian Church.

With the participation of the Church of God (Cleveland) and the AG (among others) as founding members of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) in 1941 Pentecostals enjoyed broader acceptance on the Protestant scene. "All a tumult yonder, oh me!" observed Carlyle, who also admitted: "Sorrow and disgust were naturally my own feeling: 'How are the mighty fallen'; my once high Irving come to this, by paltry popularities, and Cockney admirations, puddling such a head!" A few years ago the Lord spoke in a prophetic word, "When the Praise is low, the Gifts won't flow". Today, this land continues to host some of the most ancient churches. Besides all these, Harris seemed to have succeeded in areas where the missionary Churches had difficulty because he did not only preach about a God far away but brought Him near to his audience through the signs and wonders he performed in the Name of God. Moreover, when the word is preached, it's completely taken out of context.
